Hi Kirk - It sounds like your blog is still viewable by administrator only if you are going to the login screen.  Have you changed the permissions of the page to allow for everyone to see that page (Page Settings - Security).

Thanks,

Noel

I can see now how to add a module to a page - if I decide to make the blog my home page I guess that will work.  I still don't see how to add "Blog" to the menu at the top, next to Home.

This is jumping ahead but - I thought I had read about importing rss into an existing blog.  Is this possible?

I appreciate the help!!

Kirk, you really need to buy my book :) http://bit.ly/dnnbook

You need to add a new page, called BLOG, using the control panel. Then place the Blog module on that page. That is how you add an item to the menu.

:) I figured that out. I jsut did this and I see now that a page, is like a container. You create the container and then build the parts you want in it.... I was thinking of the blog as a contaier it'self and trying to add it that way. So, how about importing? I would like to move my CS blog and I've seen a discussion about importing using rss. ??? If that is possible it would make for a common data format.. Thanks Chris! Your book looks like a good idea, if I know I can do what I want to do then I'll go for it.

Kirk, I believe the latest version of the blog, currently in beta at http://dnnblog.codeplex.com/ might do the RSS import, but I don't have any experience with that, and I believe CS limits the amount of RSS items to somewhere around 25? Which would mean you would likely only get to import the most recent 25 posts.

I too converted from CommunityServer on my personal site, but I didn't use the blog module, I ended up using the Engage: Publish module (which I wrote most of) and wrote a custom importer for it.

Your best bet would likely be to find someone who has imported from CS to the DNN blog module, I don't imagine it would be too difficult based on my past experiences with converting from Blogs and Forums for CS to DNN, but I don't know of anyone specifically who has done it into the Blog module.
