I'm using webhots4life to host 3 sites.  For each of these sites, I'd like to install DNN on them.  Problem is, I only have 2 MS SQL database included in my hosting plan.  Can I use a prefix to identify the tables for each install so I can use the same database?  For example, site1_table1, site1_table2, site1_talble2, site2_table1, site2_table2, site2_table3, etc.  I know how to change table names in MS SQL Server, but what do I need to change in DNN for it to detect the new table names so nothing breaks?

Thanks.

One database will hold multiple 'websites' (portals in dnnspeak).  In wh4l you have the domains all pointing to the same directory on the server (ie. log in to your control panel, go to domains ... you should see all three of your domains).

Then install dotnetnuke (you can use their scripted install ... pretty easy though not totally foolproof).

Then visit your website using one of your domains.  It will automatically execute the scripts to build the database tables for a dotnetnuke installation.  If you get errors, contact wh4l tech support.  They'll get the initial installation set up.

Log in as host/host.  Change the password to something secure.  Visit host > portals.
Add a new portal (hover over the triangle beside the heading and choose 'add new portal').  Type in the url for your second website.

Repeat, adding the portal for your third site.

The host login is the same for each site.  The admin login will be 'admin' by default on the first site and will be whatever you've set up on the other sites.  Make sure to change the admin password on the first site too.

Then away you go.  hth.

Do you mean one installation of DotNetNuke will work for multiple websites?

Because I already have DNN install and using it for my first website.  I have 2 other sites on the wh4l hosting account that needs to run DNN also.  Do you mean I don't need another set of tables on the database for the second site?

Thanks.

That's exactly what I'm saying.

If you have your first site, just log in as host, add host > portals, etc (as above).

Always nice to discover that something is easier than you thought.

If I set it up like you suggested, will I have trouble in the future if I want to move 1 of the website to another hosting company? Will I have to copy the whole database to the new host? Wouldn't that mean moving the data for all three sites?

Thanks for the help again.
