I'm on a project right now that is taking an already existing dnn site and trying to have it run on my local machine. My local machine setup is: Windows XP Professional, Visual Studio 2008, and SQL Server 2005 standard. On my local machine all I want to do right now is be able to open up the dnn project and be able to run it by running the debugger. I have already reinstalled the backup database files on sql, I have updated the web.config file to point to the database on my local machine and have uncommented the following line in the web.config file: <add key="UsePortNumber" value="true" />. I gave the ASP.Net user the proper control. The problem I am running into was at first when I ran the debugger it redirected me the "live" site, which is not what I want to do. I want to be able to run it on my local machine. So then I removed all the url's from my portal alias table except the one that pointed to my local machine. After doing that every time I run the debugger in visual studio 2008 it says that the page can’t be found. I'm assuming there is something in the environment that I have either setup wrong or something I haven't installed ... any ideas?

make sure to add the local site address as additional record for your portal in portalAlias table in the database.

Thanks for the quick response, but I have already added the local site address as an additional record in my portal in the portalAlias table.

Another interesting thing to note is that after I run the debugger, when the IE pops up, the url reads : http://localhost:4777/dnn/default.aspx , however in the header of IE it has https://localhost:4777/dnn/default.aspx .... what could possibly be redirecting it to https???

Well I thought I fixed the issue, but in the end I am right back where I started with this issue. At first I discovered that I had restored the backed-up database from the live site on my local machine before I had run the code. So I deleted the database, then started a blank database and ran the code, which did a fresh install of everything which then brought me to a generic dotnetnuke page. Then I restored the backed-up database over the one I just created on my local machine, and after doing that every time I run the code it brings me to the "live" site. However, it never brings me to the "live" homepage, it always brings me to a "live" login page ... could there be something in the code that is redirecting it to the "live" login page? Again this is my first experience with dnn and any help would be much appreciated!
