I ran the upgrade from 4.9.1 to 5.3.1 as suggested from scratch.

The same problem persists however.

In addtion the ambiguos reference detailed elsewhere still exists in the /App_Code/XML/Handlers/downoad.vb source code, but this seems to ba a legacy isssue as I do not see a new version of the downoad.vb file included in the 5.3.1 upgrade package.

Line 34 should read:

"Private Sub RenderToResponseStream(ByVal Response As System.Web.HttpResponse, ByVal controller As XmlController)"

instaed of

Private Sub RenderToResponseStream(ByVal Response As Web.HttpResponse, ByVal controller As XmlController)

The same issue exists on line 89:

It should read:

Private Sub handleAuthenticateRequest(ByVal context As System.Web.HttpContext)

instead of:

Private Sub handleAuthenticateRequest(ByVal context As Web.HttpContext)

Once again the upgrade process performed flawlessly as far as I ould see. Here are the logs:

I am really slightly at a loss as what could be the root cause of this issue.

I am runnin into the same issue. I search all the postings on the internet, but it did not solve the problem. Still getting "host unavailable". Did you get a chance to solve the issue ?

No, none of the solutions offered here solved the problem.

I got heavily lambasted for posting this in the Gemini BugTracker as well as in the forums originally, and it was suggested to me that I post it in the forums and let it run it's natural course before trying to post anything in Gemini Again.

It seems that after +- 2 months nobody at the DNN team can come up with a solution that addresses the problem satisfactorily.
