Hi

I have a developer install (VWD2008/ SSE2008)

I've installed OK and got the default portal running fine, under http://localhost:4475/DNN/. In the admin settings for this portal the alias is localhost/dnn

So I want to create another Parent portal, so I go Host, Portals, Create Portal, Parent, which I want to call Portal7. for the alias I put localhost/dnn/portal7

It asks me to create a user so I do. The Portal apparently creates OK (ie. the user gets an email and there are no error messages) but when it redirects to http://localhost/dnn/portal7 it reports page not found. I've tried this several times with 04.09.x and 05.02.x and still the same thing.

Can anyone suggest what I am doing wrong? I've tried various URLS such as removing the DNN, etc but I cant seem to get anything for the new portal. Or is this just because I am using VWD rather than IIS?

Many thanks

Rob

If you are creating a parent portal it would be something like localhost/parent7 not localhost/dnn/parent7. If you want to create a portal at that path you should setup a child portal.

Child Portals get directories created by DNN beneath the current level. Parent portals require an application/virtual directory to be created in IIS in order for them to work. So you would create a virtual directory called Parent7 that points to the same folder that the /dnn virtual directory points to on the file system.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your reply.

I had also trried creating new parent portals with just localhost/parent7 too, with the same page not found result too ... But since I am just running VWD and do not have IIS with my current version of Windows I can't create virtual directories I presume? So this presumably means that I can't access any parent portals apart from the default one using VWD ?

On a kind of similar related issue, I create a child portal using the alias localhost/dnn/child3

When I click on it I get Page cannot be found - the URL is http://localhost/dnn/child3

So I add the port (this is presumably the issue <add key="UsePortNumber" value="true" /> ) setting but I'm not too concerned about this issue

Anyway, when I do get to what I I think will be the child portal page -  http://localhost:4475/dnn/child3

I get a

The website declined to show this webpage
 HTTP 403
   Most likely causes:
This website requires you to log in.

This isnt what I was expecting ! Can you suggest what is going on here? I was hoping for the DNN home page here!

Or is this just abnother issue due to using VWD ..?

Many thanks in advance

Rob

Hrmmmm using VWD I really don't know what to tell you. I can't say I've had much luck in the past with the IDE web servers so I always use IIS.
