I'm learning about DNN and am enjoying what I see.  It is still in my programming nature to want to have control over everything and know exactly what is going on.

Are there any suggestions for installing from source?  Right now, I'm just using the Free Web Editor that Microsoft Provides (http://www.asp.net/).  Is this good enough?

Please let met know what to do.  I'm hoping to be proficient enough to launch and manage a website within a few weeks.

thank you.

you may install source version and will be able to investigate source code (though not modify and build with free version, AFAIK). To setup a local source code package: - unzip package to your harddrive - create IIS website pointing to website folder. I prefer using a website name, entered into hosts file - grant permissions for ASP.Net account specified in IIS App pool - copy telerik.dll from /library/components/telerik/bin to /website/bin - rename release.config (or development.config) to web.config - Setup database and run install wizard by browsing to your site.

I read my original post and realized I left some info out.  But you inferred very well.  I'm trying to just run this on my local machine in a TEST / Development instance.

When you say:

"you may install source version and will be able to investigate source code (though not modify and build with free version, AFAIK)"

Are you talking about the free version of the Microsoft Tool set or the Free Version of DNN?  I'm assuming Microsoft but want to make sure.

For the free version of DNN, we can modify it to our heart's content correct?
