HI All

i have a quick question that i'm hoping someone can answer.

right here is the scenario we are currently testing and developing DNN 5.3 community edition on an IIS 6 2003 server not to sure of the service pack... anyway the staging domain for this site would be x.com for dev etc until we reach the point where we are happy and then want bring the site online onto the domain that is going to be it's home.

the installation of the site took place like so:

  1. configured a new site using the staging domain as the host header in IIS 6.
  2. unzipped the files into the physical paths folder
  3. installed DNN 5.3

NOW here is the crux. how do i swop out the staging domain for the domain the site is going to be ultimately sitting on?

i did some quick testing on the site by using another domain and added that to the host header to see if it teh DNN installation would run on both headers but when i fire up the OTHER domain DNN does a 302 redirect to the original stagining domain.

SO what is best practice for swopping out domains using II6 + host headers +DNN?

If i can easily swop the domains out i can control all the domain aspects from within IIS which i would rather have happening such as 301 redirecting other relevant domains to the DNN site domain

Hi,

In order to use DotNetNuke Portal with an other domain name, you have to configure new host headers in II6 and configure new domain in DotNetNuke too.

Go to menu Host - Portals and edit desired portal to add new aliases. You also could do that by menu Admin - Site Settings with superuser permissions.
