I have Windows 7, with IIS 7.

I have SQL Server Express 2008

I have downloaded DNN 5.04

To set up SQLServer, configure IIS, and install the DNN source, I followed the instructions posted by Michael Washington here: http://www.adefwebserver.com/DotNetNu...

When I go to http://localhost/DotNetNuke screen, I am getting the following error:

Error Summary

HTTP Error 404.0 - Not Found

Notification MapRequestHandler
Handler StaticFile
Error Code 0x80070002
Requested URL http://localhost:80/DotNetNuke/

If I go here instead:

I get the following error: http://localhost/DotNetNuke/default.aspx

This is very frustrating, I am new to DNN so I am sure I am making some noob error, but this is killing me.

ok, I got past the above error. I had to adjust the security settings on application pool, and I had to add the account IUSR to the file security with full rights. Now I am running the install wizard and its not letting me connect to my version of sqlserver express. I can tell that its seeing my sql server, but its saying: Connection Error(s): Index #: 0 Source: .Net SqlClient Data Provider Class: 14 Number: 18456 Message: Login failed for user 'dotnetnukelogin'. Now, i created the above user in the Express user directory and made that user owner in both schema & role membership screens udner the specific database. Does any one have any ideas?

I went to the SQL Server Management Studio and attempted to connect to the db as the user that I created and the login is failing there as well. Im not 100% sure if this is typical but I would think I should be able to connect throguh there with the user I created. One thing I just noticed also: Under "Database Role Membership" db_Owner is checked But, Under "Schemas owned By this User" db_Owner is not checked or unchecked, the box is "filled" instead as though it is partial, and it will not allow me to edit this. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can try next?

Accepted Answer

I find the best way to connect to the Database is to use Windows Security.  All you need to do is create a db, add NETWORKSERVICE account as a db owner and then run the site.  The installation database step will update the web.config for you.  Make sure you run the app pool as NETWORKSERVICE.

Well, SQL Server was configured to only allow Windows Authentication mode. That was error #1

Then I got an error that said

Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server

I found another post that said to NOT use Express in the isntallation wizard even though I have express installed on my PC. This finally did the trick and got me installed

Now I cant log into the managemet of the site, but I guess thats for another post after I do some digging...

What an up hill battle! :0
