Thanks for the help, I would have never figured that one out.  Is there documentation about this somewhere that you got this information from?  I suspect a good number of people utilizing DNN will really be frustrated by this default setting not being set to <p>.  People will feel the editor is buggy and move to something else.

Also, how do you change the default html editor back to the old one?

In web.config, make sure the default provider is set like the following:
htmleditor defaultProvider="FckHtmlEditorProvider"

It's documented in another file in the same directory  --> ConfigDocumented.xml
