What operating system are you trying to Install DNN on? If Windows 7 or 2008 R2, try changing your Application Pool to run under the Network Service account instead of the default identity it creates, then setup your file permissions accordingly.

I had a similar problem (among others) when I was trying to create a new DNN dev environment on a Windows 7 virtual machine.

The fix has to do with application pools and switching the setting for "Load User Profile" to "true".

This article helped me:

Exactly, when you create a new Web site in IIS 7, if not manually change the option, creates its own Application Pool and then you can select in Advanced Configuration, Load Profile User to true.

Thankyou for your fix.
