I upgraded my site from 5.4.1 to 5.4.2 and after executing the URL
instead of showing the upgrade process it tries to run the NEW installation wizard.

I went through the NEW install wizard just for kicks and it installed a new version of DNN.

Any ideas as to why it would run the install wizard instead of the upgrade scripts?

Did you use the upgrade version- the most common occurrence of this problem is when someone tries to upgrade with the install , as they've overwritten their web.config the connectionstrings are changed and the installer cannot find tables and assumes an upgrade. If this is the case restore the files from before the upgrade and use the upgrade version for 5.4.2 - if you don't have the files, then check the config folder, there will be a backup web.config that might get most of your settings back.

Hi Cathal,

I did use the upgrade version however your post may provide some clues - can't find tables - ...

I suspect that since the tables are prefixed with "cc_" the upgrade can't locate the tables and 
thinks it's a new install.

That said where do I need to check to tell the upgrade to use the correct object prefix?

Hi Cathal,

Wanted to let you know that my issue has been resolved and it was due to the
missing object prefix in the web.config file

After updating this value in the new web.config the upgrade went as expected.
