Hi Paul,

This is just an idea (I haven't used this myself) but have you looked at the 'Is Upgradeable' module setting and the IUpgradable interface?

Rhys

Thanks Rhys, I didn't know about that interface either, but it turns out to be just the thing. Digging a bit deeper, I found this very helpful blog post on the subject: http://billknaus.com/blogs/dotnetnuke/archive/2006/01/27/230.aspx. Will post back on my experiences of using the interface.

Turns out that, although it is the ideal mechanism for many installation-time tasks, in my case it doesn't help. That's because the data I want to add is portal specific. Really, I need to add the Profile Property when a module is added to a page in a specific portal, not at installation time, as I originally thought.

So I'll continue with the original idea of doing a check for the existence of the property when the main module control loads. Unless that is, anyone knows of an event that is fired or a method that is called when a module is added to a page?
