if you are using default configuration of VS, it is using built in web server (cassini), which is started and stopped with VS. you need to configure IIS to be used and transfer your DNN web site to it (there is a pinned post at the top of this forum how to move a site).

i created an app. in the IIS manager , name it ' DotNetNuke_Community_05.04.02_Install ' (it was it's name befor i downloaded it ) and then choosed classice .net AppPool and assigned its path ( on my desktop ) , then gave the NETWORK SERVICE full access to this folder ,
and then entered this address in my browser : ' http://localhost/DotNetNuke_Community_05.04.02_Install '
and i got this error :

HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error

The requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid.
