iFinity is the one I was thinking of in my previous post. The PB, I haven't used in a long time but I thought it had some shortcomings in previous versions (ie. worked for only anonymous users) but I honestly don't know much about it anymore (so no offense John).  Honestly, what you are requesting puts DNN in a tough spot. If we integrate these type of things (which I honestly don't believe are high on our own roadmap, if at all) we are considered 'evil' because we are taking away from the developer community (or whatever reason is justified for this). Personally, I wish both of the items you mentioned would get a little tweaking but I am not so sure it is as bad as others may view it (this site doesn't have huge issues w/ Google & SEO, although it could be better just as about any other site).  As for your upgrade fears, this happens with any framework (take SharePoint and WebParts).

Rodney, I know you saw Joe's blog post. As for documentation, we haven't released it so I know there is none that is public (and let's be honest, there usually isn't too much after initial release either besides blog posts). I do know that basically it copies pages and modules (thus creating new id's for each). I do know this route was taken vs storing the separate content per module so it could easily be integrated w/ all modules in one swoop (ie. without the module developers doing their own integration). I would start another thread to discuss it if you have further questions. I would offer more, but honestly I don't really work on the core (just bug fixes like any other core teamer) or pro.

Just to throw my part in here - I've just released a new version of the Url Master module which has a lot of specific Multi-Language Url enhancements.  Essentially this is all about transforming the long example.com/pagename/tabid/xx/language/yy-ZZ/default.aspx Url of non-default language page and paring it back to zz.example.com/localized-page-name where zz is a language specific subdomain [can also be example.zz or example.com/zz] and localized-page-name is a Url for the page which is specific to that page.

Ranking well on language-specific search engines means allowing the search engine to detect a page as in a specific language, and not just, say, a bit of french on an otherwise english page.  Separating the site content via domain name is a great way of doing that, and changing the Url to a keyword people are going to search for in that language is also very important.  That's why I've gone down this route in order to give multi-language sites the best possible tools for search engine ranking - the fact that the Urls look better for visitors doesn't hurt either.

You can get more information on this at my blog post covering this: DotNetNuke Multi Language Urls with Url Master 2.0

I haven't yet gone through all the 5.5 things - it's been a hard slog to get this far, but if it genuinely is page-as-language it's could mean a lot more work for me to support in the same way or to at least tweak it to look the way it needs to look for good SEO.  That's OK though - all part of the challenge.

Chris - you cryptically mention there are some things you'd like done differently - feel free to contact me anytime with your thoughts: my 'door' is always open.

Thanks Bruce. My comments were not about your work, I was referring to our own URL Rewriting (in the core) when I referenced tweaking. Personally, I love the work you have done around this. Previously, before joining DNN Corp, I had clients that used this and it is a great tool. I did have issues w/ the free version and the forum before, but it was over a year ago and I honestly don't remember what they were (it could have very well been my own fault). I will contact you via your contact form about anything else regarding some questions I have (not related to this thread at all or your product performance/features).

BTW: Sorry to jack the thread, I am still watching this to see if things require a response for other reasons and I still feel this is on topic so I didn't split it..

Here is a test run Googles Page Rank which runs under Firebug. Vanilla install will give a score from around 65 to 69. Install and config Pageblaster which compresses and combines the CSS and JS files it ill bump up to nearly 80! Now seeing as Google uses website performance as a ranking tool, DNN really needs to start looking at a real performance build. The infinity product builds on this to really give a great solution. What would happen if I had just tried the DNN install out of the box I would prob have thought hmmm I might try something else. I love DNN but I am at the crossroads of deciding whether to look at another platform.

Dr Ocelot, I don't disagree with anything you are saying in terms of the performance and compression of js and CSS files. I personally feel this needs some review. Unfortunately, I think we consist of a small percentage that feel this way. I think the number of files really needs some focus and some smarter CSS loading options need to be added (Example: Is the module on the page 2x? If so, we don't need to load the same module.css again). I know Telerik has a control for this but I have no idea if we plan on using it or something similar we may write in the future, if at all (I am not aware of any changes around this besides what I have already mentioned). It seems that people want cool looking or new features more than they worry about performance (and this is anywhere, not just DNN).
