Let me summarize your posts to see if I understand the issue.

  1. You were previously running DNN 4.7.0 on shared hosting.  CORRECT.
  2. Your hosting provider did the upgrade to the "latest version" - DNN 5.2.1 for you. (NOTE: DNN 5.4.4 is actually the latest version. As I recall 5.2.1 had numerous isses, one of which was disappearance of items from the Admin and Host menus.)  CORRECT.
  3. You indicated in your first post in this thread the following the upgrade "the whole site is down". When I checked the site now, it appears that the public facing pages are working well except for the error on the Home Page. Is that the DNN Stuff Aggregator module?  OKAY, I WAS EXAGGERATING IN PANIC MODE.  EVERYTHING WITH AN AGGREGATOR IS BUSTED INCLUDING HOME PAGE.  AND MODULE EXTENSIONS DON'T WORK
  4.  You are able to log in and access some items of the Admin and Host menus without error.  YES EXCEPT AS NOTED I CAN'T SEE HOST EXTENSIONS AND AM UNABLE TO GET INTO MODULE DEFS

Now for some questions:

  1. Have you asked your hosting provider if they took backups of the site files and database prior to the upgrade and if so is it possible to restore the site to its pre-upgrade state? WILL FIND OUT.  WE DID THAT IN THE PAST BUT I MESSED UP
  2.  I would also ask them about the possibility of upgrading to DNN 5.4.4.  DONE.
  3. Have you asked your hosting provider if they kept any record of the Install/Upgrade report which might have displayed errors during the upgrade? WILL DO.
  4. When you log in as host do you do so with the "host" account or with an account with more limited permissions?  I AM A SUPERUSER AND CAN GET INTO HOST ACCOUNT
  5. When logged in as host, have you examined entries in Admin-->Event Viewer to look for any errors being logged at the time of the upgrade or since the upgrade. In particular for more details about the error that is being shown on the Home Page?  YWA

  7. Do you have FTP (not just File Manager)  access to the site files?  DO NOT KNOW HOW
Do you have access to the database tables and other objects using MS SQL Server Management Studio or with some other tool - perhaps one that is web-based and accessed from your hosting control panel?  YES I THINK SO ALTHOUGH I HAVE NO CLUE ABOUT HOW TO USE IT

UPDATE:  Just wanted to thank folks SO much for helping me with this.  I was frantic.   I got in touch with DNN Stuff Aggregator developers.  They were awesome.

They helped me load the latest version of the Aggregator via SQL since the module definitions didn't work.  That didn't fix the problem.  So they were able to go in and delete the aggregator from the pages where it was not displaying properly.

The bigger problem may been either a faulty upgrade to the DNN software itself by our website host, or the fact that for some reason they upgraded us to an earlier version (5.2.1) which folks here said was buggy (including the problem I experienced which was not being able to upload modules via Host>Module Defintions.)

I am now working on getting upgraded to DNN 4.5.5.

DNN stuff indicated that it would have taken about 1 minute to rectify the Aggregator issue with the current version.

Thanks again for the help on the forum and especially from the DNN Stuff Aggregator developers who went above and beyond to help dig me out of the hole I created.

Bet
