Is it possible to define templates to use for new threads (or even for replies). This would be very useful e.g. for specialized forums where the posters must fill in some kind of form or answer specific questions.

No, there is nothing like that available. Honestly, I am not exactly sure what you want. How would one go about making something like this available. Why wouldn't you use the quote button?

We have been testing the Forum in a software support service. It's quite good at that, making each support case easily documented and traceable.
The problem is that many of the problem reports don't have all the required information, such as program version, contact info and so on.

Since the forum threads are in html, it would be nice if it could contain some kind of html form, or maybe just a template saing what information is mandatory or with special marks where the user. Couldn't this be done simply by filling the editor with some html contents initially, from a file related to that special forum?

Or maybe you have some other way of doing this?

This is definately a specialized case where it falls well below 20% of the use cases. Because of this we have no intention of actually implementing this at this time. As for what you are asking, I don't know anyway to do this aside from forcing a quote for each post kind of like you said w/ the reply. Anything else is going to require some additional effort and you will have to handle it so not all forums are like that.

I am interested in other ways to communicate w/ other modules but I think it would be easier to do this in the other modules. For example, we have a custom bug tracker we wrote which uses the forums for all comments around the bug. When someone attempts to add a comment to an existing bug, first a thread is created with the initial bug description as the first post. Then, a reply is created as a comment. All this is actually done in the bug tracker up to the point of the reply, where user is directed to forum module. On submit, the user is redirected back to the bug tracker. What happens now is when viewing that same bug, there is a link to the forum posts once there is one comment.
