We would like to update our development server to the newly released version of DNN.

This is my first attempt at upgrading DNN and I have a few questions:

* We can see references to UPDATE packages in the documentation, but can't find where to actually download this type of release at. We can only find the full install package. Is it available? If so - what is the URL?
* Can I upgrade from within the DNN Admin or Host screens? Or is this a copy and replace sort of operation done down at the file system level?
* Is there a clear set of upgrade instructions? If so - what is the URL?

Thanks,

Greg

The Upgrade package for DotNetNuke v 5.05.00 (as well as other packages)  is available here: http://dotnetnuke.codeplex.com/releas...

Unless you originally installed the Source package for DNN 5.04.04 on your development server, the Update package is indeed the one to use. If you did originally install the source package, upgrading is a bit trickier. Let me know and I'll take you through it.

You cannot upgrade from the DNN Admin or Host screens.

The new DotNetNuke Wiki (http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/W...) gives a good overview of the upgrade procedure. I would add the following tips:

  1. Make sure that you first make backups of both the installation's file system AND it's database - just in case the upgrade should fail.
  2. After downloading the Upgrade zip package and before extracting its files, right-click over the zip file icon, select "Properties" from the context menu, click on the "Unblock" button if there is one. Due to MS Windows security, certain types of files (.vb, etc.) will not be extracted if this step is not performed.
  3. If you have installed any third party modules, first check their developer's or vendor's website to be sure that your current versions will run under DotNetNuke 5.5.0.
  4. If you have installed the DotNetNuke Gallery module, both 04.03.00 release and 04.03.01 RC which includes fixes for running under ASP.Net 4.0 WILL NOT LOAD PROPERLY under DNN 5.5.0 due to a change in the behavior of the core AddFolder method. I am working on a new point release to handle that issue.

Hi William, I Managed to upgrade the source installation from 5.4.2 to 5.4.4 but the 5.5.0 upgrade is giving me some trouble. Installing Database - Version 05.00.00...Success Upgrading Database to Version 05.00.01...Success Upgrading Database to Version 05.01.00...FAILURE ERROR: (see 05.01.00.log for more information) and so on for another minute or so until it fails completely. The error log mentioned is empty, so no help there. Is there a source code upgrade guide you can point me to? Colin

Once more with formatting :-)

Hi William,

I Managed to upgrade the source installation from 5.4.2 to 5.4.4 but the 5.5.0 upgrade is giving me some trouble.
I get the following dialog during the upgrade process.

Installing Database - Version 05.00.00...Success Upgrading Database to Version 05.00.01...Success
Upgrading Database to Version 05.01.00...FAILURE ERROR: (see 05.01.00.log for more information)

and so on for another minute or so until it fails completely.
The error log mentioned is empty, so no help there.

Is there a source code upgrade guide you can point me to?

Colin
