Moderator: Feel free to move this post to a more appropriate forum if necessary.

I'm a DNN newbie and, while I'm just learning my around the software, I really like what I see so far.

I've been able to download an installer for an add-on project from this site  (Blog, for example) and add that project to my portal just fine. Works like a charm.

I've also gone through a tutorial to create a simple 'hello world' module and add that to my project. Ok so far.

But I'm not quite sure what steps to take if I want to download the source for a project on this site and be able to add that project to my portal.

Is there a resource that explains how to do exactly this?

Thanks.

usually simply install the PA and copy over the module directory in DesktopModules all source files.

Sorry for being dense but I don't even know what a PA is.

If I unzip the zip files that I downloaded (source/installer) into a new directory in the DesktopModules directory what next? Do I need to compile it and create some sort of installer file? Add it to my site using the 'upload new module' feature? Use the 'add new module definition' feature? If I use the latter then there are a number of things that I'm prompted for such as controller class, definition and controls that I'm not sure of.

Again, I'm sure this is easy once I do it once but I haven't seen any instructions on how to download the source code for a new module and to then add that module to my site.

Thanks for any help!

PA stands for Private Assembly and means an install package w/o source.

simly do not unpackt the PA, but login to your portal as a host, go to Module Definitions in Host menu and select "Upload New Module" from the action menu. Browse for your module, add it to the upload list and choose install. Check the installation log for errors, if there aren't any, you are done.

If you want to add the source code to make modifications, simply unpack the source version into the module's directory in /desktopModules folder, this might overwrite some existing files.
