DotNetNuke works fine on SQL Server 2008 R2.

Please post the exact error message that you are receiving.

What version and package of DotNetNuke Community Edition are you trying to install?

Are you installing on shared hosting or your own server?

Have you first created an empty database on SQL Server using SQL Server Management Studio or other similar tool and also created the database server login and database user with username and password?

Is the database server set up for mixed mode authentication - that is both Windows Authentication and SQL Server Authentication?

What do the connection strings in the <connectionStrings> and <appSettings> sections of your site's web.config look like after attempting the install? If you post those connection strings to this thread that would be helpful - BUT be sure to first replace the database login credentials with xxxx before posting.
