Hello everyone,

I was DotNetNuke on a now shut down website. I have to extract the content of my pages, which means uploaded images, webpage titles and webpage contents. I will integrate it in another database manually, and I have no problem with that. All I want is the current data, which I can’t seem to be able to find.

I believe my goal is to extract the content of /AppData/Database.mdf which weighs just under 1.2 megabytes. First of all, is that right?

I have installed Windows 7 and IIS and SQL Server Management and Access, but it doesn’t seem to get my anywhere. I haven’t managed to read my Database.mdf file with any of these applications. I have tried setting up IIS to put my DNN folder there, but it keeps redirecting me to my old site, and I haven’t found any references of my old site there, so I believe it’s encrypted somewhere in Database.mdf.

Can anybody help me ? Thank you very much in advance

Are you sure your website was running on SQL Express? If it was running against a full version of SQL that MDF File wasn't being used, and is just remnants of the default install.

check the backup of your previous web site, in most cases it should contain the database (separately) as well.

So you mean my goal isn’t to extract Database.mdf ’s content ? I have just looked in a freshly downloaded DNN and this file ALSO weighs 1.2 MB... I’ve been able to open it in SQL Server 2008 app, but it told me the file was badly corrupted and no table appeared. So I presumed the app deleted them, but now I think they were simply not there to start with. If the data wasn’t stored in Database.mdf, but directly in SQL Server, where would the file be located ? I’m used to play with SQLite and PHP and this is very simple, but all this MSSQL thing is over my head for the moment o_O

if the data is kept in an attached database of sql server, it is physically stored in a .mdf file as well, but usually in a different location (by default c:\program files\MS SQL\version\data or sth. like this. has the site previously been hosted at a hosting provider or on your own server?
