Jack:

I would run the DNN tests while monitoring what is going on with the Process Monitor tool from SysInternals (get it here).  If you have never used this tool it may be overwhelming at the beginning because it will give you a lot of information.  Make sure that you are capturing everything, file access, registry, network, and processes.

Also, is the PC in question a personal machine or is it maybe part of a corporate network with configuration/security controls?

Just installed it - I'll sift through the data. Nothing standing out yet. This is on my home dev machine - relatively new win 7 install, vs2010, sql server 2008. Nothing out of the ordinary...

OMG OMG!!! Just found it. The old practice of simplify the system, remove running software, remove firewall, etc. Guess what - AVG Free antivirus was killing it! Removed AVG, and the system screams! This might be considered for a knowledgebase... Thanks so much for all you help - this is a great forum... Jack

Glad you tracked it down Jack. I like AVG as a desktop solution, however I much prefer ESET Nod32 AV for servers.
