Make sure your favicon is an actual icon file and not just a renamed gif. This seems to effect mostly IE than any other browser.

Place your favicon.ico file in:   /Portals/0/

In IE, you may have to go to "Tools-->Delete Browsing History" (in IE8).

Also, it's not a bad idea to design the .ico as a 32 x 32 icon as Windows 7 will use it when pinned in the bar and most browsers will still display it nicely as 16x16 in the tab bar or favorites.

Hello Sebastian,
i place the file favicon.ico in "C:\SolutionDNN\Portals\0"  , it is right ?
Sebastian , I noticed that the type of the favicon.ico file that causes the problem,
when I've built my file using the site http://www.favicon.cc/ it works (but the real picture becomes blurred) but when I build my file in paint and I save by not ac favicon.ico not work, so it's also the type of file that plays,
Can you give me an other link of a web site that builds a favicon.ico from a real image? and that will work perfectly?
Regards

Good Morning Edward,
Thank you for answer;  Yes currently in IE8 once it works and twice it does not work, it depends on the type of file, when I created my favicon.ico  using http://www.favicon.cc/ it works (but the image becomes blurry) when I use paint: it does not work,
Is there another way to create a favicon from an real image that will be clear and who will work ?
Regards
