I've learned quite a bit in this process, but now I've hit a sticking point.    I realize many folks are at Dev Connections this week, wish I were there. :)

I have Mitchel Sellers book and am following along with it.  I have the module written, compiled, and 'imported' into my development website.    When I add it to a page in Edit mode a rectangle displays with nothing inside.   When I try to access the settings page I get a small error message above the box "A critical error has occured.  Object reference not set to an instance of an object:    But of course I don't know which object reference it is referring to.

I am able to connect to the process and watch as the code in the page_Load event is run, so I know the website is able to find the module.  At the end of that code I have to click the run button to coninue and that is when the error comes up.

Any clues at what I should look at/for?   Something in the markup maybe?   Is there a logging mechanism I can use to help determine where the problem is happening?     I like what I've seen in DNN since I last looked at it, and would like to use it in our company but I need to be able to add our own code/data to the system. :)

Thanks in advance for any tips you can provide,
Lou

First look at Admin/Event viewer to have to full error message.
You can also enable debug in your web.config to have the source code line where the error occurs.

That got me on the right road, thanks!    Turned out the problem was in the manifest.    Had a few other things, but they were code related and I was able to track them down.

Thanks again for the assist!

Lou
