What language do you prefer for the core of DotNetNuke to be written in?

Please share this poll on your blogs, and with other community members.

[EDIT NOTES: Changed the twitter poll link due to adding more options. You will need to vote again.]

Will, the question is a bit strange. Anyone with just a little bit of programming language should be agnostic of the 2 main .Net languages, C# and VB.NET. Anyone awake the last couple of years should have noticed that both languages are converging with respect to features. So.. it's a moot point.

In my experience, vb.net developers are less scared off C# than the other way arround. You could argue that vb.net developers are more all round. So.... the what I hope anyone would vote in this poll is "what does it matter?" (which sadly is not an option btw...). It should be clear that i am not voting, since i really believe it does not matter

Having said that... thats a technical reason. Now if you look at the marketing side of the coin, and if you know that there are a lot of C# developers that refuse to program against any framework whose source code they cannot understand, then that might be a good reason to switch over to C#.

Just my 2 cents (which means, i am NOT in any way relaying the "official" point of view of the core team or DNN corporation for that matter)

Erik: I agree. I share the opinion that the languages really don't matter to the average user and developer of DNN.  Since you can use any .Net language for building extensions (skins, modules, providers, etc.), all community developers should be just fine - regardless of the language that the core is written in.

However, there were other good points brought forward by Shaun during the closing panel discussion that may need to be looked at (i.e., talent pools preferences for new DNN Corp engineers).  Regardless to those concerns, there are other considerations that really weigh heavy on this discussion.  For example, Chris Hammond brought up the valid point that during such a conversion in the platform, it would be near impossible to know how deeply such a change would effect existing DNN sites and in what ways.  Recovering from some of those known problems could take a long time.

Just be known, that the results of this poll are not endorsed by DNN Corp, but rather just an informal gauge of interest.  Let's be fun with it, and spread the word.  :)

You could adopt C# for DNN v6.0.0 and make the transition that way ;)

I think Chris's point is a valid one. It would be also interesting to see how existing modules would hold itself against a framework that is so very different. Especially extensions that are already written in C# and are hence case sensitive. It would be quite important to NOT change any casing with respect to the current VB code, even though that might sometimes be better.
