Attempt to read any posted message throws the following error.  Upgraded install; totally clean module install; totally new forum.  [error at first attempt; message/threads can be posted, just not read...  Novel idea, a write-only forum...   :)

Bob, I read your other post w/ an error (That one showed RenderAuthor as an issue I believe, which is in the same view). In that other post you mentioned upgrades, 2008 files, clearing stuff out. Can you please help me understand what you have done, over time, and where you stand with it today. Hopefully, this can help me understand what needs to be done. Thanks.

I have, at current, deleted my old version of Forum module and all the circa 2008 files for Forum in the Desktop
Modules folder.  I verified no files there and that the database was scrubbed as well.

I then loaded Forums 5.0.0 again from Host via the Extensions Wizard.  Everything seemed perfect.

I proceeded to rebuild my forum structure by hand.  All looks good.

I posted two test posts.  They show up, but when I try to read them I get the error thrown that I previously posted.

I have since installed the Telerik editor, as FCK was loaded and I read somewhere that a lot of the new 5.5.1 (5.x) DNN modules need Telerik and not FCK.  That doesn't seem to change anything.

Sebastian recommended I punt and try YAF for DNN.  User/client was comfortable with what they had.  This whole thing started when a server crashed and GoDaddy told me part of the issue was this client was still happily running DNN 4.8 and I needed to upgrade...

Right now I have the Forum page turned off, but I could turn it on and let you see it.

Let me know what else you might need.  I was away from it for the weekend.

Fev days ago I meet with similar problem, exception message was similar.
Try turn of displaying avatars. Is there some others error messages in "Admin->Event  Viewer" ?
I'm not sure this solution.

Avatars off.  Never were on...  Thanks for the suggestion, though.

I have succeeded, after turning on the Telerik editor, in making the forum not accept any posts either...  No longer write-only...   :)

HOWEVER; now I can now create a new Forum Module instance [must be on a different page...or different portal...] that appears to work perfectly.

Lacking an explanation my confidence level is ZERO and declining.  Is there any way I can save my Forum structure and 'copy' it into a new instance?  I can rebuild if necessary but this is getting old...  I have no data left to worry about.

I feel I'm zeroing in, but still clueless.  Does anybody understand how this module works?

Bob H.
