Good news, I have managed to install DNN myself after removing the original install. However there were some bizzare twists.

Firstly I had to manually copy over the XML and IFRAM sub folder in to the App_Code folder before the install would work. Also just making the database and machine / decryption key modifications to the original web.config file would not work. I had to use the web.config file and the web.xml file that the hosting company provided.

I will have a look tonight and compair them to see what changes have been made and why there is a need for a web.aml file as well?

But I now have a full install with the HTML module :D

Sebastian: This is one thing I can't do as I don't have access to this. The hosting company assure me that this is set correct. I did not delete the root folder so any files/folders put in this inherited the parent permissions. So far all is looking good.

this sounds very strange, all reasons i know for this issue, are permissions and write protection.
