I've just transferred a DNN5.6 site to a new server with a hosting.  It all looks just fine but when I navigate to the site address www.mydomin.com - I get an error:-

 15/12/2010 03:06:13  Page Load Exception      AssemblyVersion: 5.6.0; PortalID: -1; PortalName ...

A dotnet Error screen appears and gives me the option to return to site - www.mydomin.com/Default.aspx and this display fine, with  no error.

In fact all pages display fine as long as I add the .aspx extension - I can access the database, all skin files - the site looks healthy.   My problem only occurs when I navigate to the domain without the Default.aspx.

I can see that my web.config file includes the lines:-

<directoryBrowse enabled="false" />
    <defaultDocument>
        <files>
            <clear />
            <add value="Default.aspx" />
        </files>
    </defaultDocument>

I'm running ASP:NET 4.0

Thanks

please make sure, the web.config has been adopted properly for .net 4, AFAIR there is a mergescript you may run.

Thanks Sebastian,
Any clues where I might find such a script - my googling has not turned up anything that doesn't horribly complex?

I'd rather naively following this thread:- http://www.dotnetnuke.com/tabid/795/f...
which suggests that the process is automatic.

Is ASP.NET 4.0 a recognised platform for Dotnetnuke?

I have the same (similar) problem . . .
Server 2003, IIS6. Site running in own Application Pool
If I do a fresh install DNN 5.6.0 under .NET 2 everything is fine.
If I do a fresh install under .NET4 I get the problem that if I visit domain there is an error page with Return to Site wich takes me to domain/Default.aspx and everything works OK until I try to visit domain in which case back comes the error.
If I do a fresh install under .NET2 and check all is OK then upgrade to .NET 4 I get the error back.
There are NO errors in the event log though if logged in as host I can see the .NET4 upgrade entry OK.
HELP!!! :-)

Can you provide a list ot the portalaliases listed in the PortalAlias table.  Make sure to list them exactly as they appear as trailing slashes or the lack thereof were one of the items which changed in 5.6.0
