Im fairly new to DotetNuke, but I think I understand the basic functionality, including how to add a module to a page.  Here's my issue in a nutshell

Say I am on page A. I am trying to copy an existing module on page A to the same page A. In the admin bar at the top, I attempt to add an existing module, however the drop down menu does not show Page A in the options.

If I jump to another page (page B), I can add a copy of the module from Page A to Page B. Having done that, I attempted to go back to page A and add the module I just copied from page B, however the copied modules doesn't show up as a module in page B either.

Very frustrating. I am sure there is something simple I am missing, a permission or the like, but I have read through a lot of postings and I have yet to come across something similar.

Any help would be appreciated.

The core interface for adding modules to a page intentionally prevents one from adding a copy of a module to a page containing the original module or another copy. This makes good sense in that copy modules share the same ModuleID which is usually passed to module views other than the default view by way of the "mid" parameter in the query string. As you can imagine, using the normal DotNetNuke approach to redirecting to alternate views (such as edit or settings) there would then be no way for each copy module to then determine if it should be the one to respond or not

Perhaps if you describe in more detail what you are trying to accomplish by having multiple copy modules on the same page we can suggest a different approach..

That makes sense. What I am attempting is to not have to recreate the structure of the module. I will be making changes to the module once copied in. I want the ModuleID to be unique.

What will eventually happen is that the modules will show in the same location, but change depending on specific log-in criteria.  If you are user group A you will see module A, if you are user group; B, you will see module B. Same location, similar look and feel, different text.

Is there another way to do this?

I would use 2 own module instances that added to the specific role on the module settings. So you can have different content on the same module for each role.

I cant seem to add any modules, new or existing, to the page I am working on. When clicking the add module button, nothing shows up on the page.

I will definitely try the instances approach to fix my other problem, but this other problem may prevent me from taking that route as well.

Is there a permissions setting I am missing that disallows the adding of modules to a page?

Thanks
