Each time I create a template using the export function in DNN 4.9.5., the templates then duplicate core modules from the default template. After creating three test templates, I now get triplicate core modules inserted into a page when using the Add or Copy page function with the default template (and ditto for the templates themselves!).

Since, the template or export function doesn't really work, I would simply like to get the default template back in working order. I examined it and it doesn't look like its been modified in any way, since I created the three test templates, yet those test templates are being applied to the default template in some manner.

Any recommendationst?

Are you sure those Templates are being applies, and not that you just have modules that are set to "display on all pages". I would also recommend upgrading to DNN 5.6, 4.9.5 is old and no longer maintained.
