Hi Sebastian,

It was so painful that luckily I found a developer with the same problem. He actually created an installer called 'MakeDNNSite'. It basically configured the IIS 7.5, created a directory and set the permissions as well as create (or you can create a blank Database) on SQL Server 2008. I had to do the setup over 5 times because it did not want to install the Database Scripts. It was stuck at installing version 5.0.0 and then cause an error. I was googling with the error message until I found a thread. It suggested to set the database using the 'sa' SQL authentication and once the Datascript Scripts succeed and install, change the Connection string to the user id/password created.

After a brutal 8+ hours I finally installed DotNetNuke 5.6 on Windows 7. I made sure to check all permissions that were set so in the future I can try to replicate installing DotNetNuke but manually, not through an installer.

Below is the Youtube of the MakeDNNSite:

To help others, the installer was found on the below site:

"A simple example of how to install DotNetNuke onto a Windows 7 System Using MakeDNNSite. MakeDNNSite can be downloaded from http://www.mikevdm.com/"

BTW. The error that I was receiving when it was trying to install the Database Scripts from Version 5.0.0 was:

'Installing Database - Version 05.00.00...FAILURE 400 - Generic failure'

Make sure to change the connection string with the userid as 'sa' and password as the sa password.

Once installed, change your credentials in the web.config.

there should be no need to adopt the connection string for installation, but you need to create the blank database yourself and grant dbOwner permission for the account being used.

Hi Sam,

Although still in Beta, Microsoft has a tool that simplifies a local DNN install called WebMatrix. Automatic download and configuration. I've used it to set up DNN on my local machine but was not able to publish to a web server as one of the features advertises.
