I am using smith cart ecommerce as our new ecommerce platform. What I want to be able to do is auto assign new users that register with our 'tax exempt' role, so they are not charged tax when checking out. Currently they are being assigned an Administrative role (they can't edit anything though, so I am not sure what the Administrator role really is)

I've been through sites and roles and users and cannot figure out how to do this.

How would i go about doing this?

Thanks much,

md

When you edit the role tick the "Auto Assign" check box, then any existing users will be added to that role and all new users will as well.

So then here is the other question,

The next thing I want to be able to do is have a checkbox when they sign up that says 'I am taxable'. This doesnt have to do anything super fancy, but an email alerting me they are taxable so I can go in and assign them the 'taxable customer' role would be super helpful, anyway of doing that? I know can add a new profile property in the user accounts area, and make it required, but I cant see a way for it to notify me automatically. I really don't want to have to bake in a form from data springs to do this, but if its my only option i guess i could enable redirect after signup to a form page they fill out.

I just want it to be super easy for the customer is all.

I think you can do it with 3th party modules like Data Springs dynamic registration :

easy, go to User Accounts, Manage Profile Properties and add the Im Taxable field as a check box and mark it as required.  Then set your registration to require a valid profile (do this unser User Settings on the User Accoutns page).
