Just thougth I'd let everyone know I have fixed this issue by following the instructions here :

I downloaded the full source for DNN 5.6.1, made the edit suggested, recompiled HTTPModules and it now works.

To clarify for other users, the workaround is to turn off compression:
Host Settings > (expand) Performance Settings > Compression Setting = No Compression.

But what about Performance? Isn't GZip compression supposed to improve performance? What are you losing when you turn compression off in order to fix this problem? Or the compression does not matter?

I have a DNN 5.6 and having the same problem. I understand what Sabastian is saying but why have the search combo box there in the first place? Red alphabet search works fine.

As a superuser, go to extensions, and click on the edit icon next to user manager, you will see a check box titled searchable that is grayed out thus not allowing it to be checked. I tried several ways to force this but no luck.

Please publish updates if there is anything new on this topic.
