apparently that provider only works for DNN 4.7.0. I would very much advise you to not use this provider, since there have been numerous security fixes to the DNN platform since then. Also, you would be limited to use modules that support MySQL. I don't have numbers on modules that offer support, but i guess it would be close to 0. If you require a free DB Server, i would seriously consider using SQL Server Express.

If you have data in a MySQL data that you want to display, this can be done.   There are several modules that will allow you to define an alternate connection string to access such data.    So you can define the appropriate connection string to your MySQL database and use these modules to display the data.  (see www.connectionstrings.com for examples of appropriate connection string to MySQL)  

In fact, you can access any database that you can define the appropriate connection string (and have the required provider) - Excel, MS-Access, Oracle, DB2, ...

The Report module can access an alternate database via a user supplied connection string.  Also consider SQLGird (Pro) from DNNStuff and/or SQLGridSelectedview from Tressleworks.

Note: You will still need to use SQL Express (or better) to run the DotNetNuke Site.
