Hello, all.  I'm new here, sorry if this has been answered.  Anyway, I have a static custom menu that I made using html and not the menu token built into DNN.  I wanted the menu bar to be styled a certain way if you were on that menu item and so I had to use a few C# if statements to find which page you were on including the tab id's.  My question is will these tab id's change if I were to move the site to a live server?  I am currently testing all this out on a dev server.

No, they will remain the same if you just restore the same database.

if you move the whole installation (all files and database), IDs will be the same, but if you create a skin package on the dev install and apply it to an existing live site, tab IDs may differ (most likely).

Right now I have a development server that is in no way connected to the production server. If I export from the dev server and import a new portal with the template will everything still be functional? The site only contains text modules, so there shouldn't be a need to copy over database, correct? I guess my question is if I want to move servers with only a content website do I only have to export from the dev and import into the production and I should be set? Change the aliases also obviously..

If you are doing a template export and import then it is "possible" for the tabid's to be different since new tabid's are generated as each page is created.
You could possibly build your menu based on friendly url names instead of tabid's to get around this during import - but then of course you could get into future problems if any of the tabnames change.

Having said all this, I am surprised these days that you could not get the build in DNN menu or one of the excellent 3rd party menu providers to render any possible menu look - there are ways to skin each menu tab and sub-tab in many of the providers these days.

http://dnnddrmenu.codeplex.com/ for example is template-able and extremely flexible.
