hi there,

I have recently created a DNN site on my localhost. I am now trying to publish it but i am having some trouble.
I have an existing website (host is powweb).
I am using the FTP protocol.

I enter in all the publishing settings and click publish. It transfers all the files and says "Publishing - Complete"

However, when I go on the browser and go to the url it comes back saying that my directory has no index and that i need to create a file with one of the following names:
  • index.html
  • index.htm
  • default.htm
  • Default.htm
  • home.html
  • Home.html

If anyone has any advice on how to solve this problem, or any links or references on how to publish a site using FTP, i would greatly appreciate it

Thanks for the help,
Nick

I had never heard of PowWeb.com but in checking their website it appears that they do not support the Windows (not UNIX based) hosting required for DotNetNuke. In addition to a Windows based server running ASP.Net 3.5 SP1 or ASP.Net 4.0, DotNetNuke also requires Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or 2008 not MySQL.

As for the basic procedure of transferring a site from localhost to remote hosting you will need to transfer all of the site files via FTP and obtain a backup of the localhost DotNetNuke SQL database which will then need to be restored on the remote host's SQL Server. You can find more details on migrating a site from development to remote hosting in the DotNetNuke Wiki and in the video tutorials.
