What is the domain URL so I can try it and see whats going on?
Also did you use host UI to add alias for domain name or you manually modified the database table?

Can you access using localhost or not? Or you are totally foobar at this point?
If you can login from localhost (on server itself) then modify your alias to point to IP. You may want to leave that alias in there. Get back to normal state with IP first. And then add alias for domain name.
One big question ..... is old site running on different IP address? I mean is IP address in your registrar for your domain pointing to your IP address for new site or not. DNS propagation takes some time.
