I like that you guys are thinking about the Control Panel in these new versions but is it possible to select the control panel by users role.

The Reason I ask this is as follows.

I build sites for people using DNN. I have developed sites for years using DNN as the foundation.
My admins figure out the control panel OK eventually after watching some tutorials.
But the end user i.e. the client does not have a cat in hells chance of using it.
Its to complexed.
So I would like to know if for the DNN savy. I.e. the host/super users we can set the new panel.
Admins can have a watered down and easier to navigate one.
and the end client or user who does not have a clue has one that is easy to use.

I have some ideas on this if any one is interested.
Anyway also can someone please tell me where I can find some information on the control panel structure as I wish to build a new one and every time I try to strip the one in my visual studio starter kit it errors like mad.
I want to make a simpler version for my clients so they can navigate easier.

Thanks
Paul

Not that anyone seems to be showing an interest in these little insights I am posting on here but if we must have the ribbon bar control panel can you not make it more like the Microsoft office ribbon bar. I see many website systems recently using this and icons with tool tips seems to be easier for the majority of people in the world to use.

Also another insight for people is that many systems I come across these days use drag and drop functionality which seems to really help in the creation of user friendly sites. Imagine being able to click on the ribbon bar tab called modules and scroll along till you find the module you want and then being able to drag and drop it from the toolbar to the page where you want it.

Well I think I will do this myself and produce a few new control panels for people to use. I am also going to look into producing a more user friendly way of displaying other information within DNN. Such as the admin and host menu layouts.

Paul,
For what it's worth I agree and have similar use cases. I've been using Oliver Hine's CP for about 6 months and while it doesn't support role based features today it's much more user friendly and my admins find it more Microsoft-like to use....which is good.

People are definitely listening, though not always replying. Since the first CTP I have personally read every post made in this forum, and I know several other who have as well. I generally only reply to topics related to what I have been working on, or occasionally (like this thread) on topics that I am aware of but have not been working on.

There will be a new pre-release of 6.0 soon, it includes a major revision to the ribbon bar. It is not drag and drop, and it is not a copy of what Oliver Hine has done but it is much better than what it was. Be sure to let us know what you think.

One of the great parts about DNN is that you can replace fundamental pieces like the ribbon bar with something very different that suits you best. Just try that with an MS Office product.
