Did I miss something on the install? My friend says you do it in Visual Studio 2010 Pro the same way you create an ASP or HTML file but no template shows up in my menu.

it should be there, you can just go to file->new file and select web user control . Note: you can install the DotNetNuke starterkit and get DotNetNuke ready templates from http://dotnetnuke.codeplex.com/releases/view/67841 . There are also alternative popular tempaltes you may consider (http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Video-Library/Viewer/VideoId/107/Module-Development-Template-Installation.aspx is a nice video that covers these). Finally, there are many ways to create code ,, the video library has some great free videos - see http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Video-Library/CategoryId/6/Development.aspx (razor in particular is a great way to add quick functionality)

download the starterkit or Chris templates and just doubleclick them and they will install into the correct places for your vs.net version. The video I linked to has a step by step process from downloading the templates to creating a module
