AFAIK, trial period for Professional Edition is 30 days, while Community Edition is free to use without any limitations.

DNN requires that your computer has the IIS web server and ms sql before you can install dnn,

The easiest way to get your system fully configured to run dnn with all the required tools in place is to start by using then
Microsoft Platform installer for DNN -  http://www.microsoft.com/web/gallery/install.aspx?appid=dotnetnuke_iis

This will walk you thru the steps to complete a full install.

Alternatively if you are a web developer planning on creating new module - then you could look at doing the install using the web matrix developer install - which does a similar install to the one above, but also includes the WebMatrix developer environment.
