Hello,

I have the telerik ultimate collection and have installed their latest ASP AJAX controls, same as those that ship with DNN but one version later...I use some of their Silverlight contols in other projects, hence I have this.

I know I need to target the telerik assembly that ships with DNN if I'm to create a module using their controls, however, when I drop a control onto an .aspx, I get an error:

"Failed to create designer 'Telerik.Web.UI.Scheduler, Telerik.Web.UI, Version=2011.1.519.35, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=121fae78165ba3d4'

None of the controls display at design time and I've not got to runtime yet  :-)

Can anyone please advise?

Thanks

If you're using a more modern version of telerik than DotNetNuke you'll have to ensure that the binding redirect is set e.g.open your web.config and ensure the newVersion is set to the version of your telerik.web.ui.dll

<assemblyIdentity name="Telerik.Web.UI" publicKeyToken="121fae78165ba3d4" />

<bindingRedirect oldVersion="2008.0.0.0-2020.0.0.0" newVersion="2011.1.519.35" />

Hi Cathal, thanks for the reply.

This is what I currently have (pointing to the version that ships with DNN which is also the one I'm trying to work with):

<assemblyIdentity name="Telerik.Web.UI" publicKeyToken="121fae78165ba3d4" />
<bindingRedirect oldVersion="2008.0.0.0-2020.0.0.0" newVersion="2011.1.519.35" />

My PURCHASED version of the Telerik.Web.UI.dll is 2011.2.712.40 however I'm not trying to target that, but use the one that ships with DNN.

I reference that in my project, add the controls to the toolbox but when I add a control to an .aspx, I get the Failed to create designer" error.

Telerik said it had something to do with needing the Telerik.Web.Design.dll AND the same version as the Telerik.Web.UI.dll, which I don't have.

I was hoping someone had a different solution...

DotNetNuke ships with Telerik.Web.UI.dll which is a special version created for us by telerik that allows us to write wrappers against to access telerik functionality. It does not allow the design time wizards to be used - for that you need a full licence, which PE/EE users get or you can buy your own. If you do that you will get a telerik.web.ui.dll file and a Telerik.Web.Design.dll file -this second file is the one that allows for design time wizards so needs to be in your web.config.

Yep, Cathal, I have the full Telerik Suite, however I am experiencing issues using the DNN release of the tools instead of my purchased version as the purchased version is a release ahead of the DNN version.

I want/need to target the DNN version of the Telerik controls.

Telerik has sent me the Telerik.Web.Design.dll compatible with the DNN release of their tools but these only work if I reference said dll in my project.

Can you please send me the correct entry into the web.config file to allow me to use the Telerik.Web.Design.dll?

Thanks
