I have a website www.firstfriends.com. It is hosted at godaddy so I could not put it in a root.

I created a dotnetnuke60 subdirectory in my root and then placed my dnn install there.

When I go to the home page using www.firstriends.com, my site shows correctly. Anytime I go to any of my other pages, it shows the dotnetnuke60 directory.

I want to REMOVE this directory from the url. How do I do it?

For example,

If you click on About Us, then on Location ... it shows:

I want it to show:

without the dotnetnuke60 directory. It looks ugly. I am sure this is a very simple fix but could not find it anywhere in the forums.

I am very new to DNN and I am very surprised as to how little info there is out there about DNN. I know of this forum and DNN Creative...and I know there is a lot of content out there but nothing real clear. I am sure that it does not help people are running on many different flavors (versions) of DNN.

In reference to my question, it seems like a lot of steps to fix the problem are OLD and outdated. I am new and I do not know much of the terminology. Will Host Headers, port aliases, url rewriting, masking, etc help?

It seems like this is a very common issue with no clear cut solution.

I know GoDaddy is not the perfect solution for hosting DNN because of the lack of access to the root. However, GoDaddy does allow you to host multiple sites by creating directories and specifying them as applications in IIS.

While PowerDNN may be a better solution for DNN it does not allow me to host all my applications there (the non DNN sites). GoDaddy does, while a bit more cumbersome for DNN. It seems odd that just because we move a DNN site into a subdirectory (as GoDaddy forces) it would cause all this havoc. There should be a simple setting somewhere to remedy this.
Thanks in advance for your help with this.
Please point me in the right direction.

Thank you very much,
Richard

you can use the hostheader setting to strip the folder - http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Wiki/Page/HostHeader.aspx .BTW the wiki has a wealth of information - http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Wiki/Page/Getting-Started.aspx is a good starting point.

Cathal,

Thanks for the reply. That sounds like it would do the trick. I went in to the web.config file and made the change.

Afterwards, I could not browse to any page inside my site (other than the home page).

I would get a

Server Error in '/dotnetnuke60' Application.
The resource could not be found.
Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for ....
Requested URL: /dotnetnuke60/AboutUs/Philosophy.aspx

Is there something else than needed to be changed?

Thanks for your help. I am really stuck here and hate to have to move this site somewhere else.

I think this is the right direction but we need to tweak something else.

Best Regards,
Richard

Cathal, there is a problem with HostHeaders when used with Human Friendly URLs. I reported this issue during tests of DNN 6 Betas.
DNN 5 and DNN 6 is affected and unfortunately, we must find a solution to this. Currently, i am also hosting many websites under Godaddy and the problem is same as priority789's.

The guys scheduled the fix for DNN 6.1, but it will be too late for me.

Personally recommend Hostgator for hosting single or multiple DotNetNuke Websites.

Cathal or anyone else,

Can anyone confirm this? Is this a way to solve my problem?

Is Ismet correct in stating this is broke in 6.0? I am using 6.0 so is this why I am getting the errors as mentioned above?

I hate to keep digging if this is a known issue.

Thanks in advance for your help!
