Hi all,

I have many staff that need to be able to login as admins to the sites we produce problem is on a few occasions they have deleted a module from the admin menu/site settings and other admin menu items.
Is there anyway to lock down the admin menu to admins so they can use all the pages and even add new pages but not delete pages or modules. Leave this for the super user (host) only to have delete rights on the admin menu.

Thanks
Paul

The core dnn security / roles provider system does not allow this sort of granularity.

Its always been one of those - what we really need is HOST / ADMIN / CLIENT level permissions.

Yes so they can see the admin menu and the modules within it but not actually edit the modules or delete them within these pages.
But are still able to add delete or change the pages that are not under the admin menu.

I think this can be done by creating a role and adding a user and then going through each page to add permissions but to be honest this is rather long winded.

I started using DNN to save time and allocate all the boring data input (content) jobs to some one else.

Thanks

Paul, I've done it both ways. Started out allowing clients to have full admins accounts. Then after similar deletions, mistakes, etc backed off permissions and created something like an "editor" account. While most clients didn't really do much more that post blogs or update forums....we eventually returned to full admin account as their perception (right or wrong) was that that had little control and the offering wasn't "flexible". Turning admin back on made them glow about how they could do anything.

More of a business view on this but in the end we decided it was worth the risk to offer a "highly customizable" solution.

That said...it would be nice to see DNN offer a built in "editor" role that had admin for content (tabs and modules) but not the site admin itself.

I would like to see a sub admin and editor role added in the core.

Sub admin can see and edit all the settings on the admin pages but can not move delete or edit the modules or pages themselves.
so they can edit the site settings such as logo and keywords and such but can not click manage and delete module.

As for the editor role all that needs is access to the control panel and the ability to edit pages. It is a shame that this is not the case already. For my staff that are editors I have to setup all the roles myself and set them on every page.

And as for the admins this is a real issue as more and more customers are deleting modules or even pages under admin by mistake. and we had one customer the other day on DNN 6 who deleted a page and it took us an hour to get it back as the recycle bin did not work.

Many other systems in the world have the ability to setup global or local roles that can be rolled out across multiple pages or access points within a few clicks. But with DNN the only way I have found to do this is to go through each page one by one and set the permissions.

O well I am not going to start using something else so I will just have to live with it. But if anyone from the core is reading this and has a quick way to role out roles across the site then please let us know.

It would be good if I could click on a role and say give edit rights on all pages and modules except admin.

Anyway rant over.

Thanks
Paul
