I've developed a few applications in ASP.NET 2.0, so I'm familiar with most concepts, but, certainly not an expert.  I was asked to install DNN so our office could take a look at its cababilities.  Here's were I'm at...

Installation went fine, tables were created, but, when I attempted to open the default page I get a bunch of these errors in each of the modules on the home page like this:

"An error has occurred.
Error: Welcome To My Website... is currently unavailable"

I tried the solution noted in the thread below, but, it didn't resolve the issue...

So, I'm stuck here and I can't seem to even find out what username/password to use to log into the system after I install, did I miss this somewhere in the install guide?  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all,
Bernie

I would be willing to bet you only set the connectionString in the ConnectionString sectin which is what the core uses in 4.??.  Since the "Core Modules" are backward compatable so they work with 3.?? and 4.?? there is also a connectionString setting in the AppSettings section.  Make sure the 2 connectionString are the same and you should be good to go.

I did the same thing the first time I installed the very first version of 4.0 after the migration was completed .  It is very easy to overlook.

Thanks for the reply.  I was able to resolve that error by removing the commented out connection string keys that are used for SQL
Exp connections.  Based on my understanding of the web.config files, this should have had no effect, however, somehow it seemed to correct the problem.  This was with no changes being made to the properly configured connections strings in both the AppSettings and ConnectionsString sections.

Too bad the documentation isn't MUCH better for this great product.  I found it to be full of omissions and I think the experiences of others here in this forum supports that.

I couldn't find out where to get the default admin login in the installation instructions, and, the users and security doc didn't have it either.  I had to search the net to find other's who had a similar problem to get the responses.  That got me going (username: host, password: host) but why isn't this found easily in the documentation?

I'm hoping my experience with the remainder of this product is better.  I know it has a huge number of users...

Thanks,

B
