Hello everyone,

I'd like to know whether or not I can use DNN to edit data in database tables in the traditional manner, rather than via the website that DNN creates.

So for example, if I have a db table called content, can I see all the records lined up in content and edit them accordingly?

We already have our website set up and it reads the data from the db, I'd like to use DNN simply to edit data in records.

Can I do this? Is DNN suitable?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I guess what I'm after is a table view similar to that produced by ASPRunner or MVC. I'd also need to make one to multiple relationships between the table views.

Thanks

Hello,

I don't know of a way DNN can do this natively, but you could certainly do it through some module. Have you tried looking on snowcovered?

You might also look at creating a dynamic data project that runs in DNN... they talk about that here: http://forums.asp.net/t/1311755.aspx/1

Hope all's well,

Mike

no, there is no built in scaffolding support in DotNetNuke (though dotnetnuke ships with the form and list module which allows you to create forms/lists and add/edit/delete data- however that data is stored in it's custom tables). There are plenty of modules that allow you to consume existing data - OWS (http://openwebstudio.com/About/ProjectOverview.aspx) and xmod (http://www.dnndev.com/) are too that come to mind as commercial options. Note: theres also http://xsltdb.codeplex.com/ but i've never used it so can't comment.
