Well, after wasting two weeks trying to fix this issue (and assuming it was an error in our config because there's NO WAY a bug this obvious could have got passed the DNN testers), I finally find your posting.
Any suggestions as to how do we work around this in the meantime? I've got designers and customers complaining that they can't edit any site settngs, so do I have to tell them to wait another few weeks until a fixed version is made public? Do I have to give them host access??

Very very unimpressed,
Jason

I would be very keen to know where the issue lies and if Charles can point us in the right direction in the source, I'd be happy to apply the fix and build a dll for those of us who are stuck.

I'm stuck between 5.6.3 with broken premium module functionality and no modules showing on the controlbar, and 6.x with this site settings problem

As part of the 5 very difficult days I spent reverse engineering my system, I only got as far as determining that the error is triggered in Lbrary\Entities\Portals\PortalController.cs

..but because as admin (I exposed the host settings section to admin users as a test) those fields don't populate with any values, I'm wondering if the fault is in Library\Entities\Portals\PortalSettings.cs

However this needs someone who didn't just starting looking at C# last week (me) to have a gander at.

Anyone?.. or maybe a pointer from the team?

Regards
Rob

I would expect that the site settings module UI validates some fields, even if they are not visible.

I got all excited to see that version 6.01 is now available, and I thought "I bet they fixed the showstopper bug"...

I'm sure it would have been better to delay the 6.01 launch by a few days and get such a fundamental bug fixed, particularly given that it primarily affects serious host applications rather than home hobbyists.

I'm currently in the process of copying our customers sites over to Telerik's SiteFinity. It looks a bit pricey for small clients, but we've wasted so much time (money) chasing stupid stupid bugs like this that it's time to look for vendors who run regression tests. After all, we have to let these clients update their own data, and we can't wait several more weeks for a patch.

I may well be back to use DNN for some sites when it reaches a stabler version, and we'll keep running the v4 and v5 sites we already host, but this sort of thing is one reason DNN is considered something of an amateur product in the CMS space.
