Any updates? This could be a great module for us if the security roles worked properly.

Steve,
Thanks for the update. There is still a functionality that I could really use and would set this module apart from all others. It would be to separate "view" and ""download"  privileges. I need to be able to let all roles view the listing of items in the repository with their descriptions, but only allow certain roles to actually download. Basically, the download hyperlink is active for some roles and not for others.

Is there currently any way to get the module to do this

Yes you can.

In the module settings, you can check off which roles can 'download' items.  The DOWNLOAD link will only be visible for those users who are in at least one of the roles you've checked off.  Everyone will be able to see all the items, but only those users in the roles you've selected will see the DOWNLOAD link

Another way is that EVERY token supports a "Roles" property, where you can specify one or more roles that would be required in order for that token to be rendered.

Example:
You have the [AUTHOR] token in your template.htm template file that displays the name of the user who uploaded the item, Let's say you only want Administrators to see that data.   You would edit the template.xml file and add a Roles setting to the [AUTHOR] token, and set the Value to a comma delimited list of security roles that are required to render the token.

So, if you added setting named "Roles" and set the Value to "Administrators", then, the Author name value would only be displayed if the current user was a member of the Administrators security role.

Hope that helps

Ok, I understand that, and thanks, but both of those are blanket options across all items in the repository. I actually need to change the download option per item.

My scenario is that I have members and nonmembs (as roles). Members can download everything. However nonmembers can download some but not all items. So one item may be totally public, while another can be seen by all but only downloaded by members.

I'm trying to avoid having to creat two instances of the module. One for members and one for nonmembers. I want nonmembers to see what members can get so they are inclined to join our association.

What would be perfect is if there was another option at the item upload level for "view". That way, when I add a document to the repository, I could select who sees the item and it's details AND then have noth item for who can download it.

Again, I need the ability to control at the item level not the repository module level

Thanks in advance for any advise or consideration.

I'm used to cgi script where I could just do an if then statement to add the hyperlink. A tad more complicated for me in dnn without learning how to build my own module
