Dear All

I would love to throw my 2 cents in here and take both sides on at different angles.

I have never been a developer, coder, programmer or even understood the concepts of what could be done until I found DotNetNuke. I still don't even begun to put myself in the same category as any of you guys who sit for hours dwelling upon how this should work and that should work

In the 14 months since finding DNN, I've begun to understand VB.Net and Frameworks and now own 2 webservers and have created many sites, one of which is up for an award for e-commerce. This would not have been possible without DNN. OK, so I tried Joomla, hated it, php so confusing. Wordpress!! Does nothing except allow text and pictures and some others and Whooosh, they mostly went over my head.

I am really glad mobile versions are coming out and until now I have only been using CE, I think PE is beyond my comprehension. I have spent a LOT of money in snowcovered, to date must have bought 60-70 modules. So am I little peeved that we don't have the full mobile functionality, well yes a little but I understand that getting members onto PE drives your revenue!! Have to say from my skills, a jump to PE is unnecessary but I will continue to support by using the method already employed.

OK, that's my ramble, now here's my beef!! Many users of DNN are like me, uneducated developers who want and need a platform that just works and makes it easy for us heathens of the development world to work onto without trying to make even the starting blocks work. My beef is not about the mobile issue, but what about straight talking, plain English documentation that is up to date when new releases come out?

Module development for example: how the heck do I get started? bought a book, watched videos and webinar's but again wow, no simplicity!! I'm getting pretty good at coding and API and Web Services but damn its all so complicated.

I even downloaded something to get me started but that didn't work, got allsort's of errors.

Guys before pressing on and making more revolutionary changes, may I recommend that whoever does the documentation either gets up to speed or makes way for someone with the skills

OK rant over!! Back to work, not even gonna check what I wrote, so I hope I make sense

Thanks Scott and also Joe, for speaking on this issue. From a none developer view like myself it has been like a showing us the carrot but not letting us take a bite and told to wait thing even though as pointed out hopefully both versions will benefit from the new api's,  The redirection feature is something i do hope is maybe made core one day and i too look forward to working with the new skins and modules that they will help bring.  The worry i had was the lack of usability of these features for none developers currently a call it my impatience. Like most waiting for new major releases we look forward to the release date and 6 was a fantastic refreshing time to get for DNN, even for me like first seeing dragging content to a different frame for the first time in one of the earlier DNN releases.  For myself who does not make any money from working with DNN and for years having followed for the love of the project and product to not see such a amazing feature like the mobile redirection into the CE is hard.  It is something i hope will be changed or possible made a community project core support maybe project  as the mobile market is still in it's infancy stage and daily see growing to a major market in itself with potentially endless possibilities.

I do think the reminder you gave on how the product primary has managed to stay ad free and remarkable unwatered down features wise compared to other both commercial and private working projects. This i thank you all. I do feel that from a marketing perspective and don't get me wrong dnncorp has done a fantastic job on handling both the community as well as form an amazing growing corporate entity. So please don't see my rant as complaint for what you do give us. I think sometimes that is easy to loose site of this.

Dear Craig, Joe, Scott
thanks for reply to my post.... but I'll try to speech of some other.
I'm sure that DNN Corp don't change it's ideas and don't enable this function on CE version.

Decided this my question is: how is the best way to make a mobile portal wit DNN Community Ed?
I think that the first step is decide if is better:

- Make a new Portal:
Easy to build.
Easy to modify.
I don't know how show the same content in 2 different Portals.

- Use a different Skin in the same portal:
Easy show the same content in Website and Mobile Site.
Need a third part module that hide/show right module in the page.

please comment this

Apologies Rmartin,
I didn't mean to high jack your thread. The only other way i can think is create seperate pages maybe and copy the module from the one page to the mobile page. Create a mobile skin and set in page settings manually the skin and maybe hide the page from the menu to avoid duplication.  There is a module at inventura that alows you to copy a module from http://www.inventua.com/shadow-overvi... but is only read only. As i think neither way is clean it's may give you some ideas on how to do. Reason for not using another portal is purely if you require dynamic content and user interaction the userbase would also then need to look at being able to sign up twice or you use a alternative signup module to avoid users signing up twice. All in all something that should be fairly easy to do is more work than in my view required.

Hope it helps
Craig

Hi Craig:
some thing

1) In conclusion you suggest me to create some separate pages but in the same website? Correct?

2) What do you think about:
http://www.snowcovered.com/Snowcovere...
and
http://www.snowcovered.com/Snowcovere...

3)Make different page in the same Portal Is different from the solution of DNN Prof. Edition they suggest to create a new child web portal but I haven't find a module that share modules from more than one portal, now I'm trying the Inventua Shadow.... ll write my impression asap.

I'm looking for a module that can share content between the Portals, but where I can change the module setting between each portal.

thanks
Rmartin
