hi all, ok been out, bought a new PC, installed Webserver 2008, SQL 2005, IIS7 for my home network.

Added first portal, all seemed good until it went to do a change in web.config and it had permission errors.

So, created a second portal and now saying failed on permission, access not granted on web.config.

I have the Network Service in place and checked all permissions, even on the web.config file and all there.

Any other issues that anyone knows about.

It v6.1 of DNN btw

please check your App Pool, which user it is using to access file. This one need to be granted file access permission.

Sebastian,

I am looking at your post because I had a problems creating additional (sub) portals having moved a site up from IIS6 on server 2008 to IIS7 in Server 8. The error reports that the application was unable to access the web.config.

I restored the site and tried upgrading from 6.01.02 to 6.01.05, but the install wizard does not respond, which I assume is down to the same issue.

Do you think this is because in IIS7 the 'application pool identity' is recommended whereas the web.config has full access permission set for Network Sevice as usual. http://technet.microsoft.com/library/...

Since I can't find a user corresponding to this application pool identity to assign control to in the site folders, I would test the sub-portal or upgrade problem with the Network Service identity set in the .Net 4.5 app pool.

Any advice on this welcome. Thank you
