Hi there.

As some of you will be aware, since Q3 2011 release of the Telerik controls, all existing skins, except Default, are moved to a separate skins assembly (Telerik.Web.UI.Skins.dll).

We have several of our own custom modules using the fully licensed version of the Telerik controls (not the community license under DNN). We use a custom skin for our telerik controls so are not affected by this neww skin dll change. We just installed 2011 Q3 controls in a DNN 5.6.1 site. Our custom controls are working fine but whenever I attempt to edit a page or module i am returned to the view page with the following critical error:

A critical error has occurred.
DotNetNuke.Web.UI.WebControls.TermsSelector with ID='termsSelector' was unable to find embedded skin with name 'Simple'. Please, make sure that you spelled the skin name correctly, or if you want to use a custom skin, set EnableEmbeddedSkins=false.

This would likely be because the "Simple" skin now resides in the Telerik.Web.UI.Skins.dll which is not part of the DNN codebase (yet).

The rest of the site works fine which uses various other telerik controls in custom modules. it only seems to be these DNN admin pages. This is a show stopper of course because we cannot modify/add any modules or pages. I wanted to establish whether there is a DNN control "TermsSelector" using the "Simple" skin that would be causing this and whether I can change it "Default" so that the Q3 2011 release will work.

We tried upgrading DNN and followed the recommended DNN upgrade path as discussed here http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Wiki/Page/Suggested_Upgrade_Path.aspx.

Although upgrades were fine at each step we still could not enter the admin pages after upgrading to telerik 2011 Q3. I noticed DNN v6.1.1 had the telerik 2011 Q2 dll but still the same problem after upgrading. We have had to roll back to DNN v5.6.1 and not upgrade to telerik 2011 Q3 for now.

I have corresponded with Telerik about this here: http://www.telerik.com/community/forums/aspnet-ajax/radcontrols-in-dotnetnuke/dotnetnuke-web-ui-webcontrols-termsselector-with-id-termsselector-was-unable-to-find-embedded-skin.aspx

Adding of the telerik skin dll has been added as an enhancement to Gemini but hopefully there is a work around in the meantime:

Thanks for any assistance.

Cheers
Chris

I'm surprised it wouldn't be added but I assume it could be a timing issue. You can add it and recompile DNN.

You need to fix Gemini. You put it affects 6.2, they will probably never see it. Also, I wouldn't call it an enhancement either or Low if you are down.

Hi Brian.

Thanks for your response. I didn't post the Gemini issue so I'm not sure I can change it.

We've rolled back the telerik version we're using so everything is okay. It is just preventing us from using some of the features in the new release like org charts.

We will wait and see if the skin dll gets included in the next DNN release and take it from there. Like you suggest, it may just be a timing issue.

Thanks again.

Chris
