I run into the same issue here with a fresh install. The file manager shows up but does not expand the Portal Root node. The cursor keeps spinning. The amount of files is very low.

Kind regards

We are having the same problem. The file manager tries to load for like 20 minutes. Clicking on any folder after it's loaded goes back to the root folder and the subfolder does not load. Major problem here. It looks like maybe you swapped out a tree control and it's overloading it (too many files). this is happening on a large site with over 10k files in the tree. This was NOT a problem pre 6.1.1.

Please note that turning off Auto-sync (while that presents problems in and of itself) will restore file manager to active use and fast response. You will need to manually sync your file system if you have external apps or FTP posting files to the system if you turn off Auto-sync, and you may need to go in and out of the file manager to get files to properly sychronize after running a manual sync.

Also note that this problem is exacerbated by websites with large numbers of files - especially if they're image files - undermanagement by file manager. If you have autosync turned on the system appears to load ALL files (regardless of whether they're images or not) to look for image size data within the file for meta data for the image editor. If you have a large file structure with lots of files it does this for ALL files EVERY time you change folders. A VERY time-consuming (and in many cases unnecessary) process.

The manager syncs ALL the files in ALL the folders no matter which node of the tree you click on. With many files in any folder in the entire recursive tree it can be reading literally megabytes or gigabytes worth of file information each time you change folders in the tree, and on initial load.

For instance, we have a site where the user is loading literally hundreds of thousands of image files for homes (real estate) into the system and file manager tries to read the giant directory structure and EVERY FILE IN IT each time you change a folder. Needless to say autosync is off on that site :)

I don't think the module fails gracefully when you have many many files and it exceeds the limit of the tree control. We've had this issue with other tree controls which is why - for the most part -we don't use them - too much overhead and too high a risk the user will create too many of the item for the control to handle.
